Into The Darkness We Fall

You Laugh ‘Cause I’m Different; I Laugh ‘Cause You’re All The Same.

“Jess, drop it.”

“Shut up Mar, I’m trying to make this pathetic-excuse-of-a-girl admit her wrong.”

“Jess, let it go.”

“See, you better listen to your little friend Jess, she says ‘Let it go.’”

I swiftly glare at the wench. “Quiet Jane. Mind your own business!”

But she doesn’t. She snickers and laughs and points to me. “You should be quiet Marla, your friend Jess told you to!”

This time, both Jess and me bare our fangs at her. “Just ‘cause we’re only half of what you are does not mean we’re worse off!”

Jane laughs loudly. She covers her mouth with her hand, while her pale nimble fingers twirl a piece of her curly blonde hair. “Whatever mudbloods.” With a taunt wink, she walks off.

Jess is grinding her teeth. It’s a bad habit of hers, but she still does it. “Why that son of a crap!” She swears under her breath.

I put my arm around her shoulders. “Chill Jess, no biggie.”

“Yea, Yea.” She mutters again.

We both walk to the “Deep.” The ‘Deep’ is a sacred piece of land that both Jess and me use when we’re tired, annoyed or whatever.

The ‘Deep’ is one of the most perfect places in the world. The Sun angles down at the right point, the trees bring cool shade and the animals roam all across.

But today was different.

The sun was no longer there. The trees were looming over us, the shadows flickering all around us, like dark evil creatures. We were most scared when we noticed that not a single animal roamed the lands.

Today it seemed…

Cursed.

The silk fabric hung limply from the figure.

A tanned hand reached out, and a single lone bird branched onto the hand.

“Be free little bird.” The bird chirped in happiness.

Yet, when the other hand reached out and grabbed the bird, the bird let out a shocked chirp before struggling out of the tight grasp.

“Be free little bird.” The same words were said again, yet the bird was close to suffocating. “Be free my little bird.”

The hand let go, and all that came out was a limp corpse and a feather that sashayed down onto the wooden ground.

Crumpling of clothes was heard, and the silk-clad figure shifted. Dark glassy amber eyes penetrated the darkness around her.

“My little bird has been set free.” Whether or not you could see her smile or not, you could feel it’s eeriness hanging in the air.

This girl named Jess set her bird free.

~*~

“Pretty flowers…” A pair of wide yet angry emerald eyes gazed with intensity at the falling Mei flowers.

“Such…delicate things, when looked, its beauty is astonished, but when tickled, its beauty breaks.”

A pink petal fell onto the girl’s shoulder, and the girl watched it slowly land on her sweater.

She plucked the petal from her shirt and studied it. “Its pink beauty is amazing…” Her voice droned on.

“SLAM!” Marla turned around swiftly. “Who are you?” Her usual toneless voice was filled with anger.

A blond girl smirked. “I’m no-one, who are you?”

“I…” Marla frowned. “I…”

The blonde girl grinned. “We are both no-ones.”

Marla shrugged, but remembered the girl had broken the delicate petal. “You killed that petal.”

The blonde girl smiled this time. “It needs to be set free.”

“Set free…? You are not setting it free, you are destroying its freedom.”

“Oh, but do you know that they have gone to a better place? Where their heart can truly be free?”

Silence.

Marla was scared. Free…it was a strong word with no correct meaning.

~*~

The ‘Deep’ was gone, lost its meaning.

“I’m scared…” Marla whispered while clutching onto Jess’s robe.

“Same here.” Jess in return, held onto Marla.

~*~

“Goodbye.” Came her dreamy voice.

“Jess…why? Why?” Marla let her tears come down in buckets. “Why are you doing this?”

Jess grinned in return. “I’m setting you free Marla. You can finally be happy with him. Be happy…without me…”

Marla felt the sharp blade on her neck, and behind her stood Jess, who was ready to kill her best- no, only friend.

“I-I don’t want to be free Marla!”

A confused expression crossed Jess’s face. “You don’t?”

“No Jess…”

Jess let the sharp blade drop to the ground. A loud clanging sound filled the “Deep” as the blade etched itself in the dirt.

“Then I will make sure you both be free.” The two girls spun around to see Jane.

Jane’s wand was out; a manic smile blossomed across her pretty face. “Let you two be free.”

~*~

“Jess…”

“Yes Marla?”

“Lets go back to our dormitories.”

The Griffindor girl nodded her head frantically. “Great idea Marla!”

Silk black robes whooshed and Jess’s Raven-Claw friend followed her.

Her badge shone bright in the moonlight.

And those of the sharpest mind

Were taught by Ravenclaw.

While the bravest and the boldest

Went to daring Griffindor.

“Marla, what’s it like being a Ravenclaw?”

“I don’t know…what’s it like being a Griffindor?”

And there was silence.

~*~

“Avra…”

“STOP JANE!” She was frantic. Calm, soothing Marla was frantic. “ I WANT TO BE CAGED! DON’T SET US FREE!”

Jess had glassy doll eyes again. “Jane…set us free…we want to fly high up into the sky.”

Weeping Marla and Crazy Jess.

“Ka-”

“NO! JANE! PLEASE I BEG YOU!”

“Jane…set us…free.”

“Davra.”

A bright flash of light, a mingle and jingle.

It hit Jess and Marla as quick as lightening.

They saw their lives pass them by. And felt nothing but numbness…

Drip.

It’s Sentimental.

Drip.

It’s Life.

Drip.

It’s us.

Drip.

Into the Darkness…

Drip.

We fall.
